There were prizes, games, inflatables, face painting, petting zoo, cotton candy, hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn, and prizes. The Easter Bunny and Yogi’s Boo Boo were on hand for photos with kids. Local churches sponsored the annual event that had 10,000 eggs filled with candy. Families First serving Pelahatchie at ERCO Ever Reaching Community Outreach (ERCO) has joined with Families First to add new services and classes to help the community. ERCO provides food, clothing and home needs. Families First provides classes for anger man- agement, parenting, financial literacy, online diploma program, positive youth development and General life skills. All services through both organizations are free. Families First representatives Jon and Tomeka Weeks have had a booth for several weeks to talk with ERCO clients and to inform them about classes avail- able. They are accepting referrals and want to get more individuals informed. Families First also provides work force development and will help individuals with writing resumes for free. Jackson Harper has been named East Rankin Academy’s 2019 STAR student. Harper is the son of Ryan and Holly Harper of Pelahatchie. He is a member of the National Honor Soci- ety, Mu Alpha Theta (Mathematics Honor Society), and ERA’s ACT 30 or Above Team. Harper serves as cap- tain for East Rankin Academy’s Academic Quiz Bowl Team, Sci- ence Bowl Team, Gov- ernment Bowl Team, History Bowl Team, and the Mississippi College Science and Math Tournament Team. He is also a member of ERA’s Robotics Team and Tennis Team. He plans to attend the University of Alabama. Harper chose Mrs. Lynn Hill of Pelahatchie as his STAR Teacher. The Mississippi Eco- nomic Council and the M.B. Swayze Founda- tion sponsor the Stu- dent-Teacher Achieve- ment Recognition (STAR) Program in an effort to encourage scholastic achieve- ment among Missis- sippi’s high school seniors. To be eligible for the STAR Student honor, a student must have an overall ACT composite of at least 25 and an overall aver- age of 93 or above.
