Pastor's Perspective: His blessings that never run out

One morning, recently, as I was taking my shower, I realized that I didn’t have any soap.  I had used up the bar of soap the day before and failed to get a new bar from the cabinet. So, I had to use the liquid body wash that my wife uses. After my shower, I put a new bar of soap in the shower for the next day. 

 
    Then, as I was brushing my teeth, I used up the toothpaste and had to get a new tube from the supply cabinet. And when I was putting on my deodorant, I realized that it was almost gone, too!  


    I got to thinking about it and realized that most of the things we use from day to day are just like that. The more you use, the less you have. That applies to the things we eat, as well. The more sugar you take from the sugar bowl, the less you have. When you take eggs or pour milk from the carton, they soon run out. That’s the reason we have to return to the store so often. When we use products, they run out and have to be replaced.  


    Then I got to thinking about the things that the Lord has promised to supply us. His spiritual blessings are not like things we buy at the store. When it comes to things the Lord supplies, the more you use, the more you have! His supply never runs out!  


    Just think about His love and compassion. He makes this promise in Lamentations 3:22-24, “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.'"


    And when you are feeling weak, remember this promise from Isaiah 40: 28-31, “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired.  His understanding is unsearchable. He gives strength to the weary, and to the one who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.”


    Of course, we must not forget that wonderful promise in Philippians 4:19, “And my God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”  
    So, the next time you run out of bread or shampoo, remember that those things are temporary, anyway. They don’t last.  But God never lets us run out of the things He provides! Cling to the promise in II Corinthians 4:16-18, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away (being used up!), yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”


    This month, as we celebrate Thanksgiving, let us express thanks for the abundance that we have been blessed with, even those things that have to be replaced. And let us not forget to thank the Lord for the blessings He provides that never run out!
