The next adoption and foster care class hosted by Zacchaeus’ Tree Adoption Ministry will take place on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Crossgates Church. The session will be held from 6:05 to 7:00 p.m. in room 207 and is open to the public at no cost. Free childcare will be provided by the church, and foster families who attend will receive a one-hour training credit approved through the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services.
The featured speaker for this class will be Cirby Scott, a Social Service Specialist II with CPS. Scott will focus on bridging communication and understanding between case workers and foster parents, a topic that plays a vital role in ensuring stronger support systems for children in care. Organizers say her insights will be valuable for both new and experienced families.
Adoption and foster care classes are offered on the first and third Wednesday evenings of each month. The ministry designs these sessions to give families a well-rounded perspective of the adoption and foster process, equipping them with practical knowledge, encouragement, and opportunities to connect with others who are walking a similar path. The classes are rooted in biblical principles and emphasize community support.
Participants are encouraged to bring a friend or family member to join them and learn more about the adoption or foster journey. Attendees are also welcome to bring a meal if they are coming directly from work.
For those taking advantage of childcare, families should use the church’s main entrance due to ongoing renovations. Upon entering, guests will pass the Welcome Center, where first-time visitors will register their children for safety purposes. The church will provide a secure check-in system using stickers for parents and children. Church staff will be available to guide families to classrooms, and an elevator is available for anyone who may need it. The adoption and foster care class is located upstairs, to the right, and is the last classroom on the left.
Crossgates Church will not be serving a meal before the session, but participants are welcome to bring something to eat to class. Organizers stress that whether someone is considering foster care for the first time or has years of experience, everyone is welcome. Those with questions or in need of assistance upon arrival are encouraged to call 601-519-1502 for support.
