The Pelahatchie Mayor and Board of Aldermen held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Town Hall. Mayor Karl Van Horn called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. with all aldermen present.
Visitor’s Business: Hayden Overby addressed the board regarding authority to advertise for the wastewater project.
Police: The department presented quotes for new equipment and uniforms to be used for funerals and special functions. The costs included $4,266 for badges, $5,853 for uniforms, and $2,558.11 for Class A uniforms, totaling $12,677.11. A motion was made by Alderman Eddie Jones and seconded by Alderman David Gray to pay the amount out of the seizures fund account. The motion passed with all in favor.
Maintenance: No report.
Clerk: No report.
Zoning: A public hearing scheduled for August 28 was mentioned concerning a residential property that allegedly has gone 10 years without water service. The property owner requested a grace period. The zoning department recommended handling such matters one issue at a time moving forward.
New Business:
Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the minutes from the July 7, 2025 meeting was made by Alderman Eddie Jones and seconded by Alderman James Harrell. The motion passed with all in favor.
Unpaid Claims Docket: A motion to approve payment of the unpaid claims docket was made by Alderman Eddie Jones and seconded by Alderman David Gray. The motion passed by a vote of 3–2.
Insurance – Morgan and White: A motion to approve a bank draft payment of $1,082.27 to Morgan and White Insurance was made by Alderman Eddie Jones and seconded by Alderman David Gray. The motion passed with all in favor.
Insurance – Blue Cross: A motion to approve a bank draft payment of $9,052.36 to Blue Cross Insurance was made by Alderman Eddie Jones and seconded by Alderman David Gray. The motion passed with all in favor.
Insurance – EMC Property: A motion to approve a bank draft payment of $6,270.81 to EMC Property Insurance was made by Alderman Eddie Jones and seconded by Alderman David Gray. The motion passed with all in favor.
Payroll: A motion to approve and ratify the July 2025 payroll—$68,288.09 for the general fund and $26,425.22 for the enterprise fund—was made by Alderman Eddie Jones and seconded by Alderman James Harrell. The motion passed by a 3–2 vote.
2024 Audit: A motion to approve the 2024 audit was made by Alderman Eddie Jones and seconded by Alderman James Harrell. The motion passed with all in favor. The results of the audit were not released at the meeting.
Aldermen’s Discussions: Alderman Eddie Jones reminded residents to remain aware during hurricane season. No further reports were given.
Adjournment: With no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Alderman Eddie Jones and seconded by Alderwoman Diane Hill. The meeting adjourned at 6:19 p.m.
