Pelahatchie celebrates teachers

Congratulations to Ms. Daphine McNair Pelahatchie High School’s (PHS) 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year. PHS wants to recognize Ms. McNair for her outstanding dedication to her students, school, and community. She is an integral part of the PHS Tribe, serving not only as the 8th Grade English and AP Language teacher, but also as a coach, mentor, and tireless advocate for student success. Ms. McNair plays a key role in assisting both the Junior High and High School Lady Chiefs Basketball teams, proudly sponsors the JR BETA Club, and never misses a moment to cheer on the students at school-wide events. She recently began the next step in her educational journey, working toward an advanced degree—further proof of her commitment to lifelong learning. Her passion for helping students rise to their full potential is evident inside and outside of the classroom. Please give a big Chiefs-style round of applause to Ms. McNair for being named Teacher of the Year.

Congrats to April Walsh. PHS is honored to recognize her as Teacher of the Month at Pelahatchie High School. She does a great job as an inclusion teacher at Pelahatchie High. She’s pictured in the center. PHS proudly recognizes a teacher who has transitioned into a new role with grace, patience, and skill, proving her dedication to both her students and our school community. Her classroom is a place where students feel supported, as she balances being gentle and understanding while also holding them accountable and encouraging their best work. Beyond her classroom, she consistently goes above and beyond—always one of the first to volunteer when a need arises. Her commitment, flexibility, and servant-hearted leadership make her an incredible asset to the team. The PHS teacher of the month program is sponsored by the Rankin County Kiwanis Club and gives thanks for having Mr. Derek Hayes present to give a special gift to Mrs. Walsh.

Congratulations to our 2025-2026 Pelahatchie Elementary School (PES) Teacher of the Year, Lauren Harrell. Her dedication, passion, and love for students shines through her work. She inspires learning, builds confidence, and makes a difference every single day. PES is proud to celebrate Harrell and all she brings to the school community.

Congratulations to the Pelahatchie Elementary School New Teacher of the Year, Juleah Jones. Jones is in her second year of teaching. While she may be new to teaching, she is not new to impacting the lives of children. She goes above and beyond every day to make learning meaningful, engaging, and full of joy for her students. PES is proud to have Jones representing the school.
