Pelahatchie high school softball finds themselves off to an 0-6 start to begin the season, with the latest coming from a 14-9 defeat against Ridgeland. It’s been defensive struggles that have highlighted the beginning of the season for the Lady Chiefs who have allowed 14+ runs in every game thus far.
Offensively the team has been good to start the year, including scoring 24 runs in a game the Chiefs went on to lose against Taylorsville. Scoring runs hasn’t been the problem, as the team has scored at least 9 in three of their first six. The Lady Chiefs have seen impressive offensive outputs from Carlye Grogan who has 7 hits, as well as Lauren Longino and Rylee Watson, who both bat .500.
Defensively though it’s been a different story. The best Era on the team is 9.24 which has created struggles early on. The team has experimented with 5 pitchers so far, and look to improve as the season continues to move forward.
