Rankin County, Miss. - The Rankin County Board of Supervisors, in collaboration with the Mississippi Forestry Commission, has instituted a 30-day ban on outdoor burning activities beginning Friday, August 21, 2026.

The burn ban will be in effect from August 21, 2026 through 12:01 a.m. on September 21, 2026, unless terminated sooner by action of the Board of Supervisors.

The decision follows a period of limited rainfall, low humidity, and high winds, creating conditions that increase the risk of wildfire and the potential for fires to spread rapidly.

The burn ban applies to all outdoor burning activites, including agricultural land-clearing.

Exempt from the burn ban are: Mississippi Forestry Commission, Certified Burn Managers, Rankin County Fire Services, Commercial Contractors with Heavy Construction Equipment.

Residents and businesses are urged to comply with the burn ban to help protect lives, property, and natural resources throughout Rankin County.
