The Pelahatchie Chiefs started the 2026 football season on a winning note Friday night, defeating the Pisgah Dragons 27-19 at home.
The Aug. 28 victory gave Pelahatchie a 1-0 start and provided the Chiefs with an early boost as they begin a new season following a playoff appearance in 2025.
Friday's win also gave Pelahatchie a measure of revenge after Pisgah defeated the Chiefs 20-14 when the teams met last season.
The victory continues Pelahatchie's historical success against Pisgah. The Chiefs have dominated the series over the years, although the Dragons entered Friday's matchup looking to build on their victory from a season ago.
Pelahatchie is coming off a 2025 campaign in which the Chiefs finished 5-6 overall and 3-1 in district play. Pelahatchie advanced to the Class 2A playoffs before falling to Bay Springs in the opening round.
The Chiefs will have another opportunity to play in front of their home crowd this week.
Pelahatchie is scheduled to host Enterprise-Lincoln on Friday, Sept. 4, as the Chiefs look to build on their season-opening victory and improve to 2-0.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Pelahatchie.
