The Pelahatchie Chiefs begin Region 5-2A play Thursday night when they host the Newton Tigers at 7 p.m. in a matchup that marks the start of the district race for Pelahatchie.
The Chiefs enter the game with a 3-3 record and momentum after winning their last two games. Pelahatchie defeated Sebastopol 32-27 on Sept. 25 before dominating West Lincoln 45-7 on Oct. 2.
The victory over West Lincoln was Pelahatchie’s most decisive win of the season and gave the Chiefs a two-game winning streak heading into district competition.
Newton enters Thursday’s game with a 1-5 overall record and is already 0-1 in district play. The Tigers opened their district schedule Oct. 1 against Lake, falling 42-12.
For Pelahatchie, the game represents a fresh start as teams begin competing for position within Region 5-2A. The Chiefs will look to carry the offensive production and defensive performance from their win over West Lincoln into the district opener.
Pelahatchie’s 3-3 record reflects a season that has included wins over Sebastopol and West Lincoln, while the Chiefs have also faced losses to Enterprise, Clarkdale and Richland.
With district games now underway, each matchup takes on added importance as teams compete for postseason opportunities.
Thursday’s kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Pelahatchie.
